When you are tying your knots for your hemp earrings or other jewelry projects your cord gets used up very fast in the knot making process. If you don't have enough hemp to finish your earrings then your whole project gets scrapped. It's not fun to throw away nearly completed jewelry. It is much easier to cut of the remaining cord when you are done than it is to start again from scratch. So when in doubt use longer strings than neccesary.
